The HackensackUMC Mountainside Emergency Department is committed to providing the finest quality patient care 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
The following experienced personnel are always on-duty to provide expert care for patients of all ages:
- Board-certified Emergency Medicine Physicians
- Hospitalist (Internist)
- Internal Medicine Resident
- Expertly Trained Emergency Care Nurses (certified in advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support)
20 additional physicians are on-call to provide specialized services including:
- Orthopedic Surgery
- General Surgery

While our sophisticated systems are designed to ensure that emergency patients get the most comprehensive treatment possible, our patient advocates pride themselves on welcoming both patients and families, keeping them as informed and comfortable as possible. Our state-of-the-art sign language computer and language interpretation phone system assure that patients with special communication needs will be adequately addressed. In addition to quickly and comfortably addressing your medical needs, our full time Case Managers help patients and families with questions regarding treatment, insurance, placement, transportation and family issues.
At HackensackUMC Mountainside, we recognize the need for a special focus on the needs of our older patients. We offer areas with less noise, softer lighting. When it comes to patient satisfaction and safety, we spare no effort.
Single-bed treatment rooms for your comfort
On admission to the Emergency Department, you will be greeted by a Triage Nurse, who will assess your medical condition, assuring immediate care for serious problems. If admission is needed, our patients are treated in single-bed treatment rooms for their privacy.
Fast tracking your case
At HackensackUMC Mountainside, there is no need to wait in line if your emergency is relatively minor. Our eight-bed Fast Track Unit is fully staffed to assure prompt and efficient care for minor medical problems. Fast Track also offers convenient bedside registration.

Our Emergency Physicians provide educational programs with local Rescue Squads, ensuring their knowledge of emergency care stays as current as that of our cutting-edge staff. Community education and community stroke screenings are scheduled throughout the year by HackensackUMC Mountainside's community health coordinators.
