Provided on an outpatient and inp atient basis in the
Transitional Care Unit
, HackensackUMC Mountainside’s Occupational Therapy Services teams provide intensive care aimed at getting patients back to their normal daily activities. Whether your goal is to return to work, leisure, self care or domestic and community activities, our occupational therapists employ careful analysis of physical, environmental, mental and psychosocial factors to identify barriers. We then work to help patients navigate those barriers to the betterment of their lives.
A typical program may focus on performance of functional activities such as ambulation, bed mobility, transfer training and wheelchair mobility. With a focus on daily living activities to maximize independence, our specialists work with patients to improve self-care skills ranging from feeding, grooming, hygiene, dressing, and bathing.
A continuum of care
Before discharge from the hospital, our therapists assess and discuss equipment needs. This may include bathroom equipment, specialized wheelchairs and seating systems or simple “reachers,” as well as environmental control units and computers. We also can perform home assessments to evaluate accessibility and suggest needed modifications. In addition, we provide home exercise programs with written instructions.
