General Practice Residency in Dentistry

A superb program in an ideal setting

HackensackUMC Mountainside is a community teaching hospital located in Montclair, NJ, a superb suburban community with close proximity to New York City.

Established in the 1930s, the HackensackUMC Mountainside Department of Dentistry offers state-of-the-art dental services with modern facilities and highly skilled practitioners. Our General Practice Residency program provides graduates of accredited U.S. dental schools the opportunity to extend their training far beyond their dental school experiences and to to gain experience in how a private practice functions. Currently four positions are available in our general dentistry program.

The general practice residency is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the accreditation status of approval without reporting requirements. Residents completing the program will have a strong foundation to enter private practice with a well-rounded knowledge of the medical status of their patients. Since four residents are accepted each year, there is opportunity for interaction with residents from a variety of dental schools.

Serving the community

The HackensackUMC Mountainside Dental Residency program, which provides comprehensive dental care to patients in the community, serves emergency dental patients in our dental clinic and in the emergency department, providing care to inpatients with acute dental emergencies. In addition, special needs patients are seen for evaluation and provision of ongoing care.

Our program is strongly committed to serving patients with developmental disabilities and compromising medical conditions. In this way, residents develop skills that enable them to comfortably interact with a variety of medical professionals.

The spirit and camaraderie developed at the HackensackUMC Mountainside General Practice Residency provide the basis for a lifelong commitment to learning, high quality care for patients, community involvement and professional relationships with fellow dentists and physicians.

HackensackUMC Mountainside participates in the Pass application process and the National Matching program.
