"I hail from Hawaii, home of the Macadamia nuts, Kona Coffee and Waikiki. Blue sky and warm sapphire-blue ocean are commonplace where I lived. How I ended up in New Jersey and why I picked this program is a long tale to tell. But in this part of the world where there is a hospital called HackensackUMC Mountainside, you will get to work with some of the nicest and smartest attendings you will ever work with in your life."

"I attended the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine where I spent two months doing family medicine rotations at Mountainside Family practice. I loved many things about these rotations including the friendly, warm atmosphere, the camaraderie amongst residents, a willingness to teach from both the residents and faculty, and a broad diversity of patient demographics. As a Family Medicine resident in this program, you are exposed to many different types of medicine including pediatrics, adult medicine and OB-GYN. I also loved having the opportunity to go on home visits, visit nursing homes and see patients at a local university. It was an obvious choice when I decided to apply for residency. I was and continue to be thrilled to be a member of this program. Now with two children, I feel lucky to be in a family friendly environment with very supportive colleagues. As this year's academic chief resident, I am excited to work with an amazing team and continue to help grow the program in new directions."

"I'm from California and I went to Ross University. I chose Hackensack UMC Mountainside because of the friendly environment, the community based hospital which is what I would like for my future.  I also enjoy having access to New York City with ease."

"I grew up in South Jersey and went to Rutgers University and New Jersey Medical School. I knew I wanted to stay and practice medicine in NJ so I ranked Mountainside Family Medicine Residency high because of the friendly and supportive atmosphere and that I knew I would get exposure to the full scope of Family Practice at Mountainside. During residency, I have also become involved with the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians as a resident trustee to the NJAFP. After I complete residency, I plan to practice traditional Family Medicine and continue advocating for better primary care in the state of New Jersey."

"First, I chose Family Medicine because I realize that it is my niche. I feel privileged to be trusted by my patients. They allow me into their lives and I do my best to help them.
Secondly, I grew up primarily in Western Massachusetts and never thought that I would find myself in New Jersey but here I am and I am glad that I am here at Mountainside.
Why? It's the faculty.  The faculty at Mountainside is at the heart of the program and its greatest attribute. They are super! They demonstrate a level of commitment and approachability that is infectious.
Finally, the program is in a constant flux, which I see as a strength. We are always searching for ways to improve our service to our patients."

"I grew up in Arkansas and moved to New York City in medical school.
My under graduate school was University of Memphis and I attended St Georges for medical school.  I am interested in pursuing a fellowship in Obstetrics.   Here at Mountainside we train with a cohesive and wonderful group of residents. I really appreciate the diverse educational experience I have been exposed to."

"I live in Northwest NJ and was formerly a pharmacist before I decided to attend medical school.  What's great about Mountainside is that I'm learning to be a good family physician in an environment with great camaraderie and faculty.  On days when I'm not doing "resident" duties, you're sure to find me with my little girl, husband and two yorkies.  We love to eat out and go to NYC!"

"What attracted me to this program was the knowledgeable and personable attending physicians.
What I like about the program is the tight knit group of residents! I wanted to be a part of a  Community hospital  where the  nursing staff and medical attendings are down to earth and willing to teach whenever you have questions and have found that here."

"Our program is fulfilling my expectations by giving me a wide breadth of experience that is preparing me for all the different aspects of primary care.  I grew up in northern New Jersey and feel as though Montclair and Verona are wonderful places to live and work during your time as a resident.  The location is also close enough to New York City that you can enjoy day trips or weekends in the city when you have time off, but far enough away that you can enjoy the relative quiet and security of the area where our hospital and office are located."

"Deciding to come here was easy. The community was familiar, the faculty was welcoming and the best part - the residents - were amazing. The close-knit family that we are has made learning and practicing medicine the best part of my day. I grew up in New Jersey and went to undergrad in New Jersey. Our program has many strengths, one of which is its strong and personable faculty. My interests lie in Obstetrics and Gynecology along with Pediatrics."

"My wife Casey and I are from the beautiful rocky mountains of Utah. We have three children and are happy to adopt New Jersey as our home. I chose Mountainside Family Medicine because it is an unopposed residency at a community hospital. I doubt there is another residency that provides as much one on one teaching time with attending physicians. We also have a very strong curriculum in Obstetrics and gynecology.
My health care interests include chronic disease management, behavioral change, public health and rural medicine."

"I am originally from Nigeria. I lived in Texas before moving to New Jersey for my residency. I chose HackensackUMC Mountainside Family Medicine residency program because of its conducive learning environment.  We have a warm, inviting, and family-like atmosphere. The program focuses on each individual resident's strength, and growth potential. Our program has a diverse patient population, and dedicated high-quality faculty."

"I chose to come to Mountainside Family Practice after graduating from St Matthew's University because the faculty and staff here are very friendly, helpful and truly interested in teaching. The community hospital setting was just what I was looking for in a program which allows all of us to get to know each other and not feel lost in the crowd. We have great residents and like to have a good time together which really makes me feel that this was the best choice for me."

"I am fortunate to be in this residency that is so close to my home especially after spending time away at Ross University School of Medicine.  The residents in the program have very quickly become like a second family to me; we all care for and help each other as much as we can.  The faculty is always willing to lend an ear for any question at any time of day or night."

"Our residency, located at Mountainside Family Practice Associates and HackensackUMC Mountainside Hospital, provides me with everything I personally wanted in a residency program. A community hospital, with an extensive track record of providing quality healthcare in my neck of the woods, was paramount to my choosing to train here. I plan on practicing Family Medicine in this area and wanted to connect with a program that could best train me for a lifetime of providing quality care to the area I'm familiar with."

"HUMC Mountainside Family Medicine Residency Program has been helping to shape me into the physician I hope to become. I’m really excited to be part of an evolving residency program. We are actively involved with utilizing our partnership with Hackensack University Medical Center to expand our clinical exposure. With supportive faculty and staff, transition to becoming an intern has been surprisingly feasible. Alongside fun-loving and understanding colleagues, I’m looking forward to my next three years!"

"I chose this program largely because it's one of the few community hospitals that offers a plethora of learning opportunities in one place. The attendings are engaging and love to teach. With my fellow residents, there's a real sense of community, collaboration, and mutual support. The location is also great--just a short drive away from New York City which is a fabulous stomping ground on your days off!"
