HackensackUMC Mountainside Responds to Hurricane Sandy

At 9 a.m. on Monday morning with Hurricane Sandy on the way, Code Triage was called at HackensackUMC Mountainside.  Over 100 employees of the hospital - from nurses and security to food service and maintenance - spent the night at the hospital to ensure adequate staffing for Tuesday morning.  In addition to the emergency patients coming in, we accepted over 30 patients from two area hospitals that were evacuated.

Our Medical Staff also went above and beyond the call of duty.  Physicians came in and remained on call to help manage, assess and triage the influx of patient transfers.

We are fortunate at HackensackUMC Mountainside to have a committed, compassionate and dedicated team. Our ability to come together, in the face of significant challenges, helped us to provide uninterrupted service not only to our community, but to patients from area hospitals that did not fare as well as HackensackUMC Mountainside.

Our thoughts and best wishes are with those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
