Volunteer Services at HackensackUMC Mountainside

Make a positive difference

Our volunteers assume an integral role at HackensackUMC Mountainside in supporting our professional healthcare teams. Volunteers enable HackensackUMC Mountainside to be a true “community” hospital where our local residents can expect to receive the highest standard of quality care in a convenient location.

The volunteer program

Ranging from high school students to working professionals and retirees, our volunteers contribute a vast diversity of talents and skills to their volunteer experience. For example, some volunteers choose to knit hats and blankets for newborns and other patients from the comfort of their own home. Others contribute time and services in the hospital itself. The Volunteer Services department is comprised of a junior program (for individuals ages 14 to 17)  and an adult program (for individuals ages 18 and above).  Through a comprehensive application process, prospective volunteers are carefully evaluated and selected for positions that best match their abilities and suit their availability.  This process can take up to 6 weeks for completion.

The rewards of volunteering at HackensackUMC Mountainside

The contributions and dedication of our volunteers to HackensackUMC Mountainside are important. Working alongside physicians, nurses, technicians and other personnel, volunteering provides a forum for personal growth, the opportunity to learn new skills, develop new interests and build friendships.  We are proud to recognize our volunteers every year at a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon during National Volunteer Week in April.
