Montclair, NJ – Scholarships designated exclusively for adult learners are now available at the HackensackUMC Mountainside School of Nursing. The new scholarships, established by the Partners for Health Foundation, are designed to attract candidates seeking a career change or re-entry into the job market who plan to work locally as registered nurses following their graduation.
Each scholarship includes an incentive bonus if the recipient secures full-time employment upon graduation at HackensackUMC Mountainside or another healthcare provider located within the Foundation’s primary service area of Bloomfield, Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Clifton, Essex Fells, Fairfield, Glen Ridge, Little Falls, Montclair, North Caldwell, Nutley, Roseland, Verona, West Caldwell and West Orange.

Two incoming freshmen entering the HackensackUMC Nursing School in the fall of 2014 will each receive $4,000 for fall tuition and an additional $4,000 for the spring, 2015 semester. Following graduation and registration as an RN in New Jersey, if a scholarship recipient receives and accepts an offer of employment from the hospital or any other qualified local healthcare provider, a $1,000 bonus will be awarded by the Foundation on the nurse’s one and two-year employment anniversaries. Partners For Health will also offer two similar scholarships to incoming freshmen in the 2015-2016 academic year.
“The nursing profession can offer the personal satisfaction and professional stability that some mature adults who have work experience in other fields are seeking,” said Ngozi O. Nkongho, PhD, RN, Director, HackensackUMC Mountainside School of Nursing. “These Partners For Health scholarships will start some qualified candidates with a passion for nursing on the path to successful local careers.”
Interested candidates must apply for admission by March 5, 2014 to be considered for the 2014-15 academic year scholarships.  Eligible applicants will be notified about the scholarship application process.  Preference will be given to those who have already earned a bachelor’s degree in another discipline and only those who have demonstrated a high probability of academic success (as measured by their pre-admission “TEAS” test scores) will be eligible.  The 2014-15 scholarship recipients will be announced at the HackensackUMC Mountainside School of Nursing Graduation Breakfast on Wednesday, June 11, 2014.
