Current Challenges in Managing Pain and Palliative Care

This multi-disciplinary CME course provides primary and subspecialty clinicians with an opportunity to learn key interventions to impact patient outcomes and improve the quality of life for patients with chronic and/or serious diagnoses. Expert physicians and clinicians from Mountainside Medical Center and the Hackensack Meridian network will discuss the integration of pain and palliative services across disciplines.
 
Upon completion of the conference, the attendees will be able to:
  1. Integrate the concepts and principles of Palliative Care in to the patient-centered care of their patients.
  2. Counsel patients on the differences between POLST and an Advance Directive and use the gained knowledge to help patients establish one or both as part of their plan of care.
  3. Improve their communication skills regarding Palliative Care with both patients/families and other care providers.
  4. Describe a basic understanding of opioid medications and their role in pain management.
  5. More effectively manage substance use in pain management and be able to recommend alternative therapies in practice.
  6. Explain the concepts of care for nutritionally challenged Palliative Care patients.
