An emphasis on holistic care
The physicians who perform breast cancer surgery at HackensackUMC Mountainside are experts in their field and members of a holistic team that will treat you as a person, not a patient. In fact, we’re ready to support every patient before, during and after surgery.
Coordinated surgical care
If you’re a candidate for breast reconstruction, your breast surgeon will work closely with a reconstructive specialist on your behalf. These experts will consider your entire medical history and collaboratively recommend the best cosmetic and medical approach to reconstruction.
Preparations for a safe, comfortable return home
Prior to discharge, every breast surgery patient is visited by a nurse educator who will answer your questions, provide self-care information and ensure that you’re ready for the next step in the treatment and recovery process.
Resources for emotional and practical support
Our social workers reach out to patients and their family members. They can provide short-term counseling and longer-term counseling referrals, as well as assistance sourcing transportation, financial aid and other resources.
We’ll also link you to the local American Cancer Society’s Reach to Recovery program. A trained volunteer with whom you can identify will provide continued support.
Circle of Women
Unlike our other support groups open to all cancer survivors, the Circle of Women is designed exclusively for women with breast cancer. Facilitated by our social service staff, this group meets twice monthly and provides a comfortable venue for sharing and support.
Look Good, Feel Better
This uplifting, free program offered quarterly at HackensackUMC Mountainside by the American Cancer Society helps our patients cope with some of the physical changes that may occur during breast cancer treatment and with chemotherapy.
