Our Radiation Team works in an interdisciplinary manner to deliver the highest levels of accuracy and safety, from treatment planning to delivery. Our highly trained medical team includes physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, nurses, and radiation therapists.

Meet the Staff

Medical Director

Knoll

Miriam A. Knoll, MD is a Radiation Oncologist and serves as Medical Director of the Department of Radiation Oncology at HackensackUMC Mountainside. After receiving her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine, she completed her Radiation Oncology residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, NY. She is a nationally recognized voice on Social Media in Oncology and has published in multiple academic journals and media outlets. She serves on the Communications Committee of the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and writes a blog for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

 

 

Administrative Assistant

Kelly

Kelly Parente is the Administrative Assistant in the Department of Radiation Oncology. Kelly is responsible for the day-to-day office operations of the department and has 28 years of experience. When you call or visit our department, Kelly’s smile is the first to greet you. Behind the scenes, she keeps our department running efficiently and smoothly.

 

 

 


Nursing

Linda

Linda West, RN is a Registered Nurse in the Department of Radiation Oncology. She has 22 years experience working with Oncology patients and was awarded the prestigious Myrtle Phillips Forsyth Nursing Award in 2014. She also serves as a Nurse Navigator for the HackensackUMC Mountainside Lung Screening Program and Melanoma Survivorship Program.

 

 

 


Radiation Therapists

Joe

Joseph Volpe, RTT is Chief Radiation Therapist of the Department of Radiation Oncology at HUMC Mountainside. He completed his training at the Saint Barnabas School of Radiotherapy. “Joe,” has 30 years of radiation therapy experience and has been serving as Chief Therapist for 5 years.

 



 

Therese

Terese Besso, RTT is a Radiation Therapist in the Department of Radiation Oncology. She completed her training at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center School of Radiation Therapy. Terese has over 30 years of experiences treating patients with radiotherapy. In Terese’s words, “I truly enjoy treating patients and getting to know them over the course of their radiation treatment. I consider myself lucky to be able to do something I really enjoy.”


Annie

Annie Dixon, RTT is a Radiation Therapist in the Department of Radiation Oncology. She completed her training at the Saint Barnabas School of Radiotherapy and brings over 9 years of experience treating patients with radiotherapy.  Annie’s favorite part of her job is connecting with her patients and creating a friendly place for them to undergo radiotherapy.

 

 


 

Physics

Robert

Robert Sasso, MS, DABR, has served as Chief Physicist of the Department of Radiation Oncology for 35 years. After receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from NJIT, he completed a Master’s degree in 1974 at Rutgers University. He also serves as the Radiation Safety Officer for HUMC Mountainside.  Robert became ABR Board Certified in 1982. He currently resides in Wayne, New Jersey.

 

AlbertoAlberto Zacchino, CMD, is a board-certified Medical Dosimetrist and is the expert behind the advanced treatment planning of radiation therapy in the Department of Radiation Oncology. “Al” has over 26 years of experience with medical dosimetry, administration, and radiotherapy quality assurance, including the successful installation of four Linear Accelerators and advanced software technology. Al is expected to graduate with an Executive Masters in Business Administration (M.B.A.) in Spring 2017. He currently resides in Manalapan, NJ.

 


 

Social Work

Lynne

Lynne Eisenbrand, LCSW, is a social worker at the Department of Radiation Oncology and supports patients and family members in a variety of capacities. She provides counseling sessions, facilitates cancer support groups, aids with financial assistance programs, and refers patients to vital community and national cancer organizations. She serves as Coordinator for the annual Cancer Survivors Day Celebration. Lynne is on faculty at Montclair State University and teaches a survey course in mental health.



 

Infusion Department Manager

Terri

Terri Pietsch MS-N, RN,CTR, OCN,NE-BC is the Manager of the Infusion Department. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The College of St. Elizabeth, she completed a Masters of Science with a focus on Nursing Leadership from Regis University. Terri holds specialty certifications as an Oncology Registrar, Oncology Certified Nurse, and as a Nurse Executive. She has served as a nurse and healthcare leader for more than 35 years. Her motto is, “To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.” 



Administrator

KarenKaren Palatella, RN is the Chief Quality and Compliance Officer and Administrator in the Department of Radiation Oncology at HackensackUMC Mountainside.
