HackensackUMC Mountainside has received an “A” grade for hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group, an independent nonprofit organization run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits, which conducted a nationwide review of hospitals this year. The “A” score was awarded in an update announced by Leapfrog on November 28.

“This exemplary rating is just one of many benchmarks that underscore the excellent caliber of care we provide at HackensackUMC Mountainside,” said John Fromhold, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital. “It’s a direct reflection on the talent, dedication and commitment to excellence among our physicians and staff and I congratulate them on a job well done.”

“We applaud the integrity of The Leapfrog Group for updating incomplete information issued earlier this year by allowing a more thorough and comprehensive review of data for our hospital and others nationwide,” he added. “HackensackUMC Mountainside has a long, distinguished history as a provider of the finest quality health care services and we are well-positioned to carry on that tradition for years to come.”

Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Score program assigns A, B, C, D or F scores to facilities throughout the U.S. based upon preventable medical errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. According to Leapfrog, “Hospital Safety Scores are compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and are designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families.”
