Simplifying the entire process

Our goal at HackensackUMC Mountainside is to make your stay as simple and worry-free as possible. We want to make sure your focus is on getting better, not paperwork. To help you steer clear of any potential problems, we will call the day of your admission to let you know your room is ready. In addition, we’ve set up a step-by-step guide for you to follow:

What to do before you are admitted

Contact your insurance provider at least 24 hours before your planned admission time to obtain

referrals or authorizations, if required. Many insurance companies have strict guidelines about covered services, where you can receive them and which physicians can provide them. Even though the hospital's admissions office will contact your insurance company, there may be information only you can provide.

Bring your photo identification, insurance card, prescription insurance card and referral information to the admissions office, which is located off the hospital's main lobby. If you have any questions, call the admitting office at 973-429-6186.

For emergency admissions or admission from outpatient clinics

We will complete your admission paperwork in the emergency department, or an admissions office staff member will come to your room to complete it. Or we may ask one of your family members or a friend to go to the admissions office. If you are coming from your physician's office, please come to admissions first to complete your paperwork. If you are unable to do so, an admissions staff member will come to your room.

When you go home

If you have not completed your admissions paperwork by the time you are discharged from the hospital, please visit the admissions office before you leave. We'll make sure that your insurance and other information is complete and that we have all the necessary signatures and releases.

HackensackUMC Mountainside offers three convenient entrances:

  • The main lobby: Outpatient Services, including Cardiac Services, and Same Day Medical.
  • The Harries Pavilion: Outpatient testing (lab, radiology), the Adult Health Center and Same Day Surgery. Most scheduled admissions check in through the Harries Pavilion but may also go through the Main Lobby.
  • The Emergency Department: The Emergency Department: emergent care.
