Mountainside Hospital will host an appearance and book signing by Debra Pascali-Bonaro, the co-author of “Orgasmic Birth: Your Guide to a Safe, Satisfying and Pleasurable Birth,” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15.  Admission is free and copies of the book will be available for the discounted price of $10.  Advanced registration is requested.  Call (888) 973-4MSH to RSVP.

Debra Pascali-Bonaro is an internationally renowned “doula” or non-medical expert on childbirth.  Her book “Orgasmic Birth,” published in June by Rodale Press and co-authored by Elizabeth Davis, details techniques for making childbirth more pleasurable, and challenges stereotypes and myths.  It is a follow-up to her previously released, critically acclaimed documentary film of the same name that was featured on the ABC News show “20/20.”

Both the book and film versions of “Orgasmic Birth” have been endorsed by physicians and midwives.  One of the most prominent advocates of “Orgasmic Birth” is Dr. Christine Northup, the best-selling author of “Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom” and “The Wisdom of Menopause,” who is also known for her appearances on Oprah and PBS Specials.

Infant births at Mountainside Hospital increased 46% last year.  The hospital offers flexible, family- centered birthing options.  Mobile telemetry is available.  This highly valued service provides expectant mothers with the freedom to walk around, shower and remain active.  Both midwife births and physician-assisted births are supported at Mountainside Hospital.  A state-of-the-art maternal-fetal health unit is available as well as a Perinatologist who specializes in the care of women with complicated or “at-risk” pregnancies.  A Special Care Nursery is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by Neonatologists who are specially trained in providing care to newborns.  An array of pre-natal, post-partum and infant care courses and support groups are offered.  Among area hospitals, Mountainside Hospital has the highest percentage of infants breastfeeding at discharge.  The Mountainside Hospital Birthing Center hosts a free monthly tour and open house.  To register or obtain further information, visit www.mountainsidehosp.com
