The Mountainside Hospital Center for Advanced Bariatric Surgery has reaffirmed its standing as one of the premier facilities of its kind statewide with a three-year renewal of its Center of Excellence designation by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
“Weight loss surgery is truly a life-saving process for obese people who are experiencing, or are at-risk for, serious complications,” said Dr Karl Strom, Medical Director. “The lap band and gastric bypass procedures that we perform are a crucial component in a larger process. We follow-up by providing our patients with practical and emotional support to help them make the lifestyle and nutritional changes that are necessary to achieve and maintain a healthier weight.”
“Our designation as a Center of Excellence and our exceptional patient satisfaction ratings are an indicator of the extraordinary caliber of our entire team,” Strom said. The center’s staff also encompasses a nurse manager, specially trained bariatric nurses, dieticians, health insurance coordinators and support staff.
Bariatric surgery is now recognized by the National Institutes of Health, American Medical Association, American Association of Family Practitioners and National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases as the only proven method for achieving and maintaining weight loss in certain patients.
“As a designated Center of Excellence in its field, the bariatric center is an example of our hospital-wide commitment to responding to timely community needs with the finest quality health care solutions,” said John A. Fromhold, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mountainside. He said other examples include the Mountainside Cancer Center which is accredited with commendation by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer; the recent expansion of the Wound Care Center to include high-tech hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers; and the hospital’s Radiology department where board-certified radiologists with prestigious credentials in numerous subspecialties use state-of-the art technology to diagnose and treat an array of conditions.
At Mountainside Hospital, world-class physicians treat a wide range of medical conditions using cutting-edge technologies. Patients have immediate access to innovative and effective treatment alternatives at specialized centers within the hospital that focus on women's health, cancer care, cardiac care, surgery, obesity, stroke and chronic kidney disease. Mountainside Hospital has been serving community health needs since 1891.
